The summer favorite Gothenburg offers both salty swimming in the sea and in fresh water in some of the beautiful lakes. By tram or bus from central Gothenburg, you can get to several swimming spots, and if you drive, you can get away to more individual places. Here we have collected all of Gothenburg’s best swimming spots.
Sillviksbadet

At Hisingen is the popular Sillviksbadet. On a hot summer day, this is one of Gothenburg’s most popular bathing spots. Here there is both a shallow beach, piers and rocks from which to swim. There are also toilets, a kiosk and a playground. During high season, it can be full in the nearest car park, but there are more places a little further away where you can also go to the nearby Lillebybadet. The bus stop is just by the beach.
Hovåsbadet
Here you swim in the sea in southern Gothenburg. The swimming area is located in a sheltered bay with a small cove that protects against both wind and waves. There is both a beach, jetty and rocks to swim from. There are toilets and a cafe at the car park. You can go to Hovåsbadet both by car or by bus and then a 10-minute walk.
Askimsbadet
In southern Gothenburg is the large bathing area of Askim. Here there is a large sandy beach and a large and wide jetty with benches to sit on. There is also a large lawn, playground and miniature golf course. Plenty of parking and quite easy to get here by bus and a short walk.
Fiskebäckbadet
Outside Frölunda in the area of Fiskebäck is the cozy bathing spot Fiskebäcksbadet. The bathing area has a nice beach, jetty and rocks to swim from and there are both toilets and a cafe. Easy to get here by bus or by driving your own car.
Delsjön’s swimming area
One of Gothenburg’s closer lakes is called Delsjön and is located in the eastern part of town. You can take the tram here and then walk 20 minutes or take the car all the way there. There is a sandy beach and jetty here. If you want to be a little more at peace, you can swim from rocks further out on a peninsula that lies next door. There are toilets, barbecue areas, a playground and a cafe nearby.
Humlebadet in the lake Aspen
In Jonsered, just below the magnificent Jonsered’s Herrgård is Humlebadet. Here you swim in the lovely lake Aspen, which stretches all the way to Lerum on the other side. There is a sandy beach, jetty and a small jumping tower. Simpler toilet and cafe that is open sometimes. The easiest way to get here is by car and park at Jonsered’s gardens or take the commuter train to Jonsered and walk the last 800 metres.
